Going to Tikal? Why what is there? Well let's start by saying that it is a magnificent, ancient Mayan city and one of the most important ones. It is located in the middle of Guatemala's northern cloud forest. It is also one of Guatemala's main touristic attractions. Here you will find pyramids, temples, underground passages and lots and lots of wildlife. I first visited Tikal nine years ago, actually it was where I met my husband. But I came by myself and let me tell you that to get to know this place on your own is a very difficult task. About a month ago my husband and I decided to go back, this time we went with our 6 year old son. Since it was so hard for me to explore this place by myself before we decided to do some research and found a great tour. Let me give you a description of the tour so you know what I'm talking about. But first we had to travel from the central region of Guatemala to a colorful city called Flores in Peten (the northern region). We got installed in our hotel and in the next morning we got picked up. Once we got to Tikal National Park we noticed that this was a hiking tour. We walked along many easy hiking trails and were able to see some beautiful birds and howler monkeys. I know that since there is a lot of walking involved not many people will like the idea of taking this tour but as soon as you see the temples and other buildings you will see that it was worth the trouble. You will be accompanied by a bilingual guide all the time. A bit later you will have a filling and tasty lunch. At the end they will drop you off at your hotel. Believe me it is a trip you don't want to miss. About the Author: Marina K. Villatoro, lives in Central America - Costa Rica and Guatemala for the past decade.
